Visual Connections

In engaging Deaf audiences through BSL poetry, the project uses participants’ first language, by passing the usual need for interpretation.  The aim is to build relationships with the signing community and test approaches to improving access to visual art.  The project looks to address the lack of opportunity for Deaf audiences to engage with contemporary art by recognising that written language used in galleries is a barrier for some Deaf individuals.
